Courtney Shanade Salter, also known as Ari Lennox, a Washington, D.C.-based American singer/songwriter, was signed as Dreamville Records' the first artist of female gender with Dreamville Records by J. Cole. On the 21st of October, 2016, she released Pho, her first EP under the Dreamville Records label. It was at this point that she gained her first the attention of her peers. The album that she released as her debut album Shea Butter Baby was released on May 7, 2019. Ari Lennox has uploaded her music on the internet since 2012 following the debut mixtape "Five Finger Discount" and her EP Ariography. In 2014, Ari Lennox dropped her own single Bound along with her mixtape, which she released herself, Five Finger Discount. The song was included in Omen's Elephant Eyes and on Sweat It Out on the 21st of July in 2015. J. Cole was interested in her talent and wanted to work with Rihanna.
